The The 38th Congress of the Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (SSAI), Reykjavik, Iceland, Iceland 10/06/2026 - 12/06/2026, has been accredited by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing MedicalEducation (EACCME®) with 12.0 European CME credits (ECMEC®s). Each medical specialist should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Over 800 delegates are anticipated to attend SSAI 2026 in Reykjavík, making it one of the largest Nordic gatherings in anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine. The congress program features international keynote speakers, hands-on workshops, simulation training, and scientific sessions focused on innovation, patient safety, and the future of critical care.

In addition to clinical science, SSAI 2026 Congress will spotlight physician wellbeing, gender equity, burnout prevention, and leadership in healthcare. Dedicated sessions on work-life balance, impostor syndrome, microaggressions in medicine, and representation in critical care reflect the congress theme of “Finding the Balance” beyond the bedside. These sessions will be delivered by leaders within anaesthesia and critical are medicine as well as Dr. Valerie young, a world-renowed speaker on the topic of impostor syndrome

The scientific program for SSAI 2026 Congress represents all subsets of anaesthesia and intensive care medicine, including sessions on ECMO, immunotherapy complications, advanced haemodynamics, pediatric airway management, ICU futures, and artificial intelligence in critical care. International experts will lead discussions on balancing safety, efficiency, and innovation in perioperative and intensive care medicine. Hands-on workshops and simulation sessions will complement the multidisciplinary program.

We are proud to announce that internationally recognised patient safety expert Dr.  Helen Higham will deliver the keynote Laerdal Lecture at the 38th Congress of the Scandinavian Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine in Reykjavík in June 2026. Her lecture, “The Pivotal Role of Anaesthesia in Patient Safety,” will open SSAI 2026 and set the stage for an inspiring congress focused on this year’s theme, “Finding the balance.” We look forward to welcoming delegates from across the world for a dynamic programme of science, collaboration and innovation in anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine.
